HOMESPIRE HOUSE
CANTERBURY, KENT
Nestled inside the historic walls of Canterbury and just opposite the astonishing Canterbury Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this retirement apartment was a small but deeply rewarding challenge. With its modest footprint and compact proportions, it required a design approach that balanced functionality with personality, making the most of every inch while creating a home that feels truly special.

The brief was clear yet inspiring: transform a practical retirement flat into a place of warmth, comfort, and joy; a home that not only suits everyday living for one but also opens its arms to friends and family dropping by for a glass of wine.
The kitchen, once too small to serve more than one person at a time, was reimagined into a welcoming heart of the home, cleverly designed to allow two to cook, chat, and enjoy the space together. Every corner was carefully considered, ensuring that the apartment didn’t just feel bigger, but also more inviting and effortless to live in.
We drew inspiration from the landscape of Kent, the “Garden of England,” weaving its spirit into the design through colour and texture. Soft French greys, Farrow & Ball’s warm neutrals, and layers of rich textiles created a timeless backdrop, while curated accents added depth, charm, and individuality.
What emerged is a home that feels both intimate and expansive, a sanctuary where practicality and beauty coexist.
Though modest in scale, it reflects a lifestyle full of connection, hospitality, and ease. A true example of how even the smallest spaces, when thoughtfully designed, can tell the biggest stories.
